Melinda June Nelson competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Roush-Fenway-Keselowski (RFK) Racing. Nelson goes by "MJ" to avoid confusion with her aunt who shares the same first name, who is also a fellow competitor.

Nelson's sister Melissa is a fellow competitor in the NASCAR Cup Series. Her cousins Sam, Madeline, and Max Turner, and their uncle, Lyle Christensen, are also fellow competitors.

Nelson was 10th fastest in 1st practice, 15th fastest in 2nd practice, and 33rd fastest in 3rd practice. She started in 9th place in Heat 1, but finished 5th to take the last qualifying spot and advance to the main event, while her teammate Trevan Haws failed to advance. At the main event, Nelson started 17th. She ended up finishing 19th.

Daytona 500

Nelson was 6th fastest in qualifying, moving on to the second round where she was 6th fastest. Nelson started 3rd in Duel 2.
